The Faculty of Physics of Sofia University is the oldest and one of the most respected educational institutions in the field of physics in Bulgaria. About 600 students in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs study at Faculty of Physics of Sofia University. The area of ​​competence of the Faculty (divided into 10 departments) covers practically all areas of the modern physics:

(i) theoretical physics, nuclear and particle physics, astronomy, astrophysics and gravity; (ii) meteorology, oceanology and geophysics; (iii) atomic physics, optics and spectroscopy; (iv) plasma physics, quantum electronics, microwave physics and communications; (v) condensed matter physics (solid state physics, biophysics, microelectronics, new materials and phenomena).

In INFRAMAT the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University offers competence and equipment for research with Raman spectroscopy of different types of materials (single crystals, synthetic ceramics, thin layers, polymers, liquids, biological samples, geological samples, archaeological finds, study of the composition of paints, etc.).
