Central Laboratory of Applied Physics BAS – Plovdiv, CLAP BAS – Plovdiv
The Central Laboratory of Applied Physics is an academic institution caring out scientific, scientific-applied research, developments and innovative transfer in the field of materials and technologies, including nanomaterials and nanotechnologies. The research and innovative activities are in the following priority fields:
- multifunctional nanostructured and nanosized materials for mechatronics and medicine;
- high technological processes, incl. nanotechnologies for surface modification;
- high effective solar elements, energy-safety LED sources and systems, autonomic energy-effective complexes;
Researchers at CLAP have long-time expertise in wide segments of material science, optoelectronics and microelectronics, such as development and study of new nanostructured and nanosized materials for the surface modification, multi-transitional epitaxial heterostructures on III-V nitrides for high effective solar cells.
CLAP performs technological transfer of superhard nanocomposite coatings with enhanced wear resistance and enlarged life time of tools, parts components and matrixes for the machining industry. At present, such transfers are doing to more than 30 companies exporting for the European market.
Currently, CLAP is a partner in the building of two centers, the Center for excellence “National center of mechatronics and clean technologies“ and the Center for competence “Smart Mechatronic, Eco- And Energy Saving Systems And Technologies“, financed by the OP “Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014 – 2020”. As a co-founder of the Regional Academic Centre in Plovdiv, CLAP participates at the National network of the Regional Academic Centers.
CLAP is a partner in INFRAMAT with the established Center for high technologies, which integrates modern technological equipment for the PVD processes cathodic arc evaporation (Platit π80+, Switzerland and vacuum semi-industrial equipment for cathodic arc deposition of hard mono- and multilayer coatings) and reactive unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UDP 850-4, UK), and multifunctional equipment for study of mechanical and tribological parameters of bulk materials and films (Compact Platform CPX-MHT/NHT, Switzerland), as well as the expertise of the scientists in the scientific-applied research and innovations.
